Children’s University Graduation 2016

I was extremely proud of our pupils last Thursday – 23rd June – as so many of them graduated with the Children’s University at Liverpool Hope.

This initiative captures and celebrates all of the extra hours that children commit to outside of the normal school day. We had 42 graduates this year, with many achieving Bronze, some Silver, a few Gold and even a couple of pupil achieving the next ‘Certificate’ award.

We were accompanied by children from Whiston Willis and it was lovely to be with a school who also values the opportunities we as primary school can offer our pupils.

An added joy of this occasion is watching proud parents as they support their children along their learning journey.

Our Sports Team: Mrs Watts, Mr Houghton, Mr Grainger, Mr Austin and Miss Colquoin – all turned out smartly to join in with the occasion – the success of which can be attributed in part to their passion, commitment and drive. They are excellent role-models for our children to look up to.

It was a privilege to be a part of the ceremony – even if I did become a little emotional during my speech.

Well done, everyone. Here’s to 2017!

Alder Hey say “Thank you!”

Our Alder Hey Project group welcomed visitors into our whole school assembly. Sheelaugh Greenslade, (Patient Information Manager) and Fiona Lyons, (Chaplain), enjoyed listening to a poem created by the group about how they felt when visiting the hospital:

A rtistic walls and rooms amaze us.

L ucky to have such wonderful staff.

D isappointed people leave with a smile on their face.

E verything around you is child-friendly.

R espectful of everyone’s feelings.

H appy to help.

E veryone supporting everyone.

Y ou’ll be safe at Alder Hey.

Our children also completed a survey, (some on iPads) that asked what they would value if they would visit a hospital. For example, would you appreciate a comfy bed over lots of toys to play with? Our visitors appreciated hearing the views of our children.

At the end of assembly, the project group received a bag full of new books for our class libraries and a book token each. We really enjoyed having Sheelaugh and Fiona to visit! Thank you!

“Your children are fantastic and a real credit to the school, themselves and their families. Their energy and enthusiasm was infectious and it was a real joy to be part of the assembly.” Fiona Lyons

“Such energy and smiling faces made it a very enjoyable experience. I wish I had gone to Prescot Primary when I was young!” Sheelaugh Greenslade
