Staff ‘put their finger on’ what makes our school special. #philosophy #pcpinset

On Saturday, May 14th, all of the PCP staff team gathered in school to explore, discuss and decide exactly what our school thinks is sacred. We hear visitors say all the time what a wonderful place our school is, how amazing the children are, what a great learning atmosphere there is. But why?

We wanted to be able to verbalise exactly what we hold dear; describe our shared view of the underlying principles of our school. By the end of a very busy but enjoyable day, we had discussed the challenges and successes of what we do, the power of language and the incredible influence we can have to help our learners believe in themselves.

We had also succeeded in explaining our school philosophy in eight key areas:

  • The image of the child
  • The role of the family & community
  • The role of the environment
  • Learning without limits
  • Safeguarding: Heart. Mind. Health
  • Inclusion for all
  • Connected learners
  • Shared leadership

All staff agreed that this was an enjoyable, constructive day that allowed time for valuable discussions and productive teamwork. You will see the fruits of our labour in the main entrance. Also, watch this space!

Peer Mentors get shirty!

Our new Peer Mentors were in uniform today for their first lunchtime on duty. They are familiarising themselves with what situations this role may bring and are excited to work with our younger learners in the coming weeks.

Our new Peer Mentors!

On Friday 29th April, eight of our Y4 and Y5 children were trained by Natalie from Bullybusters to be  ‘Buddies’.

These children spent the morning exploring the role of the ‘Peer Mentor’, especially at play and lunch times. They especially looked at the skills needed to be a mentor – one of the most important of these is that you must be a good listener. You should always try to understand how another child may be feeling and help the worried child to find a solution.

Natalie also helped the children to understand the motto ‘Safety over Surprises’. This promotes the idea that the peer mentors cannot keep secrets and the children know who to go to in school if they are worried about another pupil.

I am very excited about having some new, committed pupil leaders. The children want their own coloured t-shirts and expressed an interest in going neon so that other pupils will see them easily!

Well done to: Gopika, Sian, Tom, Harvey,Frankie, George, Abbie and Harley.
